I have lived in Eureka for many years and Humboldt County all my life. I believe in giving back to the community. I have served on the Planning Commission, Housing Advisory Board, Parking Place Commission, and now on the City Council.
I graduated from South Fork High School, then served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Later, I graduated from College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State University with a degree in business. I operated an insurance business for 30 years, finishing with Larry Dake Insurance in Henderson Center. I own and help manage residential rentals in Humboldt County. I was a high school and college basketball referee for 27 years.
From serving on the council I know how complex issues can be and how even straightforward proposals are difficult to implement. I have also realized how important it is to have a constant revenue source for the city in order to provide the services we need. Our financial stability is not sound. We need to find new ways to get more jobs into Eureka. I have been working on that problem since my appointment.
I believe my background and experience qualifies me to serve on the Council.
