My name is Dr. Esmeralda Diaz I am 47 years-old. I am a retired physician having practiced family medicine for over a decade before dedicating my time to upbringing my two children Wolfgang 15 and Karla 8. My husband (who is a teacher) and I met in Salinas, CA. A few years after we were married we decided to move back to his hometown of Fresno in 2002. His family has called Fresno and the surrounding area home since his 101 year-old grandmother`s family came to Selma in 1916. My interest in local education coincided with my son entering preschool. Volunteering in his class sparked an interest in how educational opportunities are provided and how they could be improved. Since then, I have served on site and district parent committees, continued to volunteer at my children's schools, and was involved in FUSD's graduation task force. As a board member with the Holistic Cultural Educational and Wellness Center, I have been a voice in guiding and supporting members of the Sikh, Hmong, Laotian, Latino, and African American communities in getting to know each other and each others customs in an effort for all of us to live in a united community that embraces diversity, education, and good health. Recognizing the continuing needs of the South- East I made the decision to run for trustee to bring these concepts of working together despite differences for the common and greater cause of our children's future.
