CURRICULUM: Our district, like all districts in California, is in the process of transitioning to the Common Core, which involves both teaching curriculum in a new way and testing in a new format. While we have been preparing for this change for several years, successfully continuing the transition to Common Core is of critical importance. We must make sure the district is using the best curriculum and teaching methods at all grade levels to teach Common Core concepts. Moreover. We must make sure that the change in curriculum doesn't impact our students' ability to take the highest levels of math offered in our local high schools. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: School funding in California remains unconscionably low. Through strong board leadership, we must continue to make sure that all funds are being put to the best use for our students. We must control costs where possible, spend money wisely and plan for the continued ongoing solvency of our district. TECHNOLOGY: We have made great strides in the past few years adding technology into the classroom, but we have been limited in this regard by the budget crisis. With additional funding starting to come in to the district, we must begin a conversation regarding how we can become leaders in technology integration in the classroom while, at the same time, making smart decisions about the best and appropriate use of such technology. |
