I started my career with the Butte County Assessor's Office in August of 1983 as a Typist Clerk I. I was the first clerical staff member to perform field work to check eligibility for miscellaneous exemptions, work previously performed by appraisers, which saved the county money. After graduating from Butte College with honors in 1989, I became a Real Property Appraiser. I was the first woman to perform appraisals in the mountains, working alone in areas the code enforcement officers wouldn't go without deputy escorts. I was promoted to Principal Appraiser in 2002 when I became responsible for the Paradise branch office. At that time, I became the first woman in Butte County to supervise other appraisers. I participated in the committee with several other counties to create the Timber Preserve program utilized by Megabyte, the tax software company used by Butte County and 25 other California counties. I have successfully defended my values before the Butte County Appeals Board and the Hearing Officer. I currently assist in the training of new appraisers. I am known in the office for my work ethic and my knowledge of the rules and regulations required to do the job. My 30 years of service to the people of Butte County have been at all levels in the Assessor's office, from an entry level position to supervising others. This has given me an extensive knowledge of the Revenue and Taxation Code and the Property Tax Rules issued by the State Board of Equalization. |
