https://www.facebook.com/groups/rentboard/I was chosen to run on the pro-rent control slate nominated by the 2014 Tenants Convention. As Vice-Chair of the Rent Board, I demand fairness and work passionately to make sure everyone has access to justice. I am a leader of the Berkeley Tenants Union and a landlord with a rent-controlled cottage behind our West Berkeley home. I believe that safe, healthy, affordable housing is a human right, and rent stabilization is Berkeley's most effective affordable housing program. Our Rent Board must remain a place where landlords and tenants can find assistance and resolve disputes without need for expensive attorneys. We have good laws and good people to ensure seniors, people with disabilities, low-income families, students and all others get a fair hearing. My priorities include protections against Ellis evictions, landlords and tenants in foreclosure, and innovative outreach to students, new renters and first-time owners. Without a safe and stable home, no one can reach their full potential. Help keep Berkeley a place we can all call home. A coalition of tenants, homeowners, and landlords endorsed me at the 2014 Tenants Convention. I'm endorsed by Rent Board Commissioners Blake, Dodsworth, Shelton, Soto-Vigil, Webster, and Chair Stephens. BerkeleyRentBoard.org I have held the following public offices: (See definition) Vice-Chair, Berkeley Rent Stabilization Board; Berkeley Zoning Adjustments Board Member; Chair, Eviction, Section 8, Foreclosure Committee of the Berkeley Rent Board Record of community service: (Not to exceed 25 words) Berkeley Tenants Union Steering Committee; Volunteer: Robin Hood Committee for a Windfall Profits Tax; Block Captain, Shotwell-Folsom Neighborhood Watch; Tenants Rights Counselor, San Francisco Tenants Union; Volunteer: KUSF San Francisco |
