|
Pauline Cutter has a strong vision for San Leandro + a city whose safe neighborhoods, strong schools and vibrant quality of life for all make San Leandro the best city in the Bay Area. For the past four years, Councilmember Cutter has worked hard to renew interest and attract investment in San Leandro. Great gains have been made with the public private partnership of the high-speed fiber optic network, Lit San Leandro. This innovative project has succeeded in attracting advanced manufacturing and high-tech companies, bringing well-paying jobs to San Leandro. Pauline understands the importance of San Leandro welcoming innovative ideas and new business. She knows we need to create job opportunities and business hubs so the children who grew up in San Leandro want to remain in the community to raise their families. First elected to the City Council in November 2010 during challenging fiscal times, Pauline got to work quickly with the goal of restoring the city's financial stability. She led by example by voting for Councilmembers to take a pay cut by paying their share of pension costs. She then worked with all employees to pay their share of pension costs by negotiating fair, multi-year contracts with all employee groups. Pauline is proud that the City of San Leandro now has a two-year budget cycle that allows for better planning and financial stability. With a strong record of accomplishment in public office, Pauline recognizes that it is vital to bring people together in support of goals developed by, listening to and engaging the community. And this is exactly what she did as President of the San Leandro School Board to solve the challenges of aging facilities and high school overcrowding. Under Pauline's leadership, San Leandro voters invested over $170 million in our local schools. For 11 years as a member of the Board's Facilities Committee, she oversaw construction of the science wing at San Leandro High School, the new Jefferson Elementary School, new classrooms at John Muir and Bancroft Middle Schools. As School Board President in 2006, Pauline spearheaded the effort to bring the community together to ensure passage of Measure B, a $109 million bond to address overcrowding at San Leandro High School, expand the school library, modernize and renovate classrooms and student restrooms district-wide, as well as build a new Arts Education Center. Pauline is a recently retired parent educator, director and classroom teacher at San Lorenzo Cooperative Preschool, part of the San Lorenzo Unified School District. Pauline continues her longtime involvement in the public schools as an Energy Specialist for the San Leandro Unified School District, working to implement and monitor energy conservation programs at all SLUSD schools and offices. Recognized as a leader in the county, Pauline serves as Vice President and San Leandro's representative to the Alameda County Waste Management Authority and its Energy Council, taking an active role in recycling and green waste initiatives. She also serves on the Alameda County Transportation Commission, making important decisions on how to allocate millions annually in road and transportation projects. Pauline is a member of the California Teachers Association, the National and California Leagues of Cities, and the Sierra Club. Pauline has lived in the Broadmoor neighborhood for nearly 40 years. Her husband, Scott, is a Journeyman Carpenter for the County of Alameda Building Services. Pauline is proud that her three children attended San Leandro public schools and are all college graduates. |
