JESSE ARREGUÍN IS:

YOUR VOICE. Jesse Arreguín was elected to the Berkeley City Council in 2008 and re-elected in 2010 representing District 4.

MAKING HISTORY. Councilmember Arreguín is the first Latino to be elected to the Berkeley City Council and is the youngest councilmember in city history.

DEDICATED TO SERVICE. Councilmember Arreguín serves on a number of regional and city committees, representing the city on the:

  • Oakland Airport Noise Forum
  • 4×4 Joint Task Force Committee on Housing
  • 3×3 Berkeley Housing Authority/City Council Committee
  • AC Transit-Berkeley Interagency Liaison Committee
  • Berkeley Post Office Subcommittee
  • Berkeley/Albany Mental Health Commission
  • Oversight Board for the Berkeley Redevelopment Successor Agency (Chair)

Councilmember Arreguín has also served Berkeley residents on a number of boards and commissions:
  • Rent Stabilization Board (Chair), elected citywide in 2004
  • Zoning Adjustments Board
  • Planning Commission
  • Housing Advisory Commission
  • Downtown Area Plan Advisory Committee
  • Joint Density Bonus Subcommittee

A PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRAT. Councilmember Arreguín is also an elected member of the Alameda County Democratic Party's board of directors, known as the "Central Committee."

A LIFELONG ADVOCATE FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE. From a very early age, Jesse has been a voice for social justice. He is the son and grandson of farm workers, and worked to educate others about the legacy of César Chávez as a young person. Drawing on the legacy of Chávez's commitment to non-violent social change, Jesse has been a political activist for 20 years.

EDUCATED RIGHT HERE IN BERKELEY. Councilmember Arreguín is a proud alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley. During his time at Cal, he served as the City Affairs Director for the student government. He served on the Chancellor's Joint Oversight Committee on Parking and Transportation. He was active in the Cal Berkeley Democrats. Jesse earned a B.A. in Political Science.

INVOLVED IN HIS COMMUNITY. Jesse is committed to improving his community in a wide variety of ways, and is very involved in his local community. He has served on the board of the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association, as well as the Executive Committee of the Sierra Club's Northern Alameda County Group.
