Mark Lunn was elected Ventura County's Clerk and Recorder, bringing to the office his plan for reform and innovation. Mark has since worked tirelessly to preserve the County's historical heritage, protect the public's personal documents, and ensure that elections are as fair as they are free. Mark has made popular the slogan "preserving history and protecting democracy" to describe in a nutshell the professional and personal obligation he feels to the voters who elected him County Clerk and Recorder.

Mark is a lifelong public servant with four decades of experience at the city, county, and state levels. As a law enforcement officer for more than 34 years, he served primarily with the California Highway Patrol, achieving the rank of Assistant Chief, and was responsible for supervising operations in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

In 1972, Mark began his law enforcement career with the California State Police at the age of 19, becoming the youngest peace officer in the United States at the time. Accepting the scrutiny that came with his early accomplishment, he worked diligently and earned a promotion to the security detail for then-Governor Ronald Reagan. This began his career specialty of protecting California governors, statewide office holders, United States presidents, and other national leaders. Mark was selected as the incident commander for President Ronald Reagan's funeral motorcade in 2004. Lunn also served the City of Monrovia as a police officer early in his career.

Mark has been active in the community throughout his career having been appointed to numerous non-profit executive boards. Mark previously served for five years as Commissioner and Chairman on the City of Thousand Oaks Planning Commission. He currently serves as a Commissioner on the Ventura County Area Housing Authority Board of Directors. Mark is a long time member of "RDP21" (Regional Defense Partnerships for the 21st Century) a coalition of military, business and community leaders working to prevent military base closures in Ventura County. In addition to his distinguished career in public service, Mark has been a successful small business owner for over 20 years.

A strong proponent of education, Mark is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Business and Law Department at Los Angeles Mission College. He holds several college degrees and professional certifications. In 2012, Mark earned the professional designation of Certified Elections/Registration Administrator (CERA) under the auspices of the Election Center and Auburn University. CERA is the highest professional designation achievable and is held by less than 3% of election officials in the United States.

Mark resides in Newbury Park with his wife of 25 years, their two children, and the family dogs, Dude, Pudge and Diesel.
