Ideas on how to create new job opportunities and move Sonoma County forward. One of the discouraging things about Sonoma County is that it is so difficult and time-consuming to get a new business approved or expand a current local business. The California Environmental Quality Act has been subverted to the point that projects can be delayed even after they have received final approval from our permitting agencies. When I am elected, I will work hard with our State legislators to reform CEQA so that disputed projects can move forward during the appeals process. This will eliminate some of the uncertainty in delays that make it so unattractive for businesses locate or expand here. We need to revisit Project Labor Agreements and repeal the recent vote so ALL local businesses can bid on the large Government projects that are underway, such as S.M.A.R.T.and the airport runway extension. We need to take the millions of tax dollars being wasted on cycling as a transportation & circulation element of General Plan 2020 and bring them into the General Fund to provide more road repairs for our 1340 mile failing roads infrastructure. We need to charge an "out-of-County" tourism fee for weekend cyclists and license non-student bicyclists 18 years of age and above. Finally, we need to attack our pension crisis and call all stakeholders to the table to renegotiate spiked pensions, our current labor agreements and our overpaid County managers and Dept. heads. We need to adjust salaries and benefits so we can afford to pay them. We need to return the "service" to "public service," in that the compensation for a "public service" job does not exceed the standard compensation, benefits and retirement for a private sector job. After all, there should remain an element of sacrifice in the performance of a "Public Service" job. |
