After graduating from Cal State Fullerton, I began my teaching career in Southern California. I soon realized i wanted more education so attended Cal Poly Pomona where I earned a Reading Specialist Credential. I worked fro several years as a Reading Specialist before moving to the San Jose area. It was while teaching there I truly understood that we needed to start much earlier to help children become successful readers. It was at this point i opened my first of what would become three pre-school/childcare facilities.

While running my pre-school programs I became very interested in the need for high quality child care. At this point I became active in the California Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Assoc. it was through CAEYC that i received advocacy training and traveled often to Sacramento and Washington D.C. to advocate for legislation to protect young children. Through the NAEYC my program became the only private child care program in Santa Clara County to be accredited by the NAEYC.

About 15 years later I had the opportunity to work for the City of Sunnyvale as their Child Care Coordinator. This was a wonderful opportunity to share what my knowledge with both centers and home care providers.

Almost 20 years ago my Husband and i moved to Morro Bay where we quickly became active in a wide variety of civic groups. This is probably what led to my appointment to the City Planning Commission where I served as chair for several years before being elected to City Council in 2010.

We raised three children who grew into wonderful adults and we now have six grandchildren.
