Campaign Priorities

By Susan Lofthus

Candidate for Council Member; City of Stockton; Council District 3

This information is provided by the candidate
Stockton has endured much suffering but we are on the road to recovery. As your City Councilmember, I will continue that momentum so that all Stocktonians can benefit from our progress.

As a lifelong Stockton resident, businesswoman, wife, mother and community volunteer, I know how great our community can be if we all work together. I love and believe in this city and want to see it prosper. To achieve this goal, city leaders must continue to address the enduring challenges of crime, jobs and financial accountability.

My top priority is to improve public safety by putting more police on the streets. While Stockton's murder rate has fallen, it's still too high. We must find innovative ways to address drugs and gang violence because every resident deserves to feel safe.

As we emerge from bankruptcy, we must ensure the city doesn't spend more than it takes in. We must live within our means and balance our books just like every Stockton resident must do. We must also spend wisely to protect taxpayers while providing the vital services that our residents expect and deserve.

Our city is at a crossroads. Do we fall back into old patterns of failure or do we continue to make the bold decisions that will lead to Stockton's rebirth, bringing with it family wage jobs and the hope that tomorrow will be a brighter day?

I would be humbled to receive your vote for Stockton City Council so we can continue to move our community forward together.
