BALLOT STATEMENT for PETER ZSCHIESCHE, M.B.A. Governing Board Member, San Diego Community College District

With over 11 years of experience as Trustee, Peter Zschiesche works hard to make the San Diego Community College District a first-class provider of public higher education and well-connected to our District E communities.

Our community colleges are San Diego largest provider of affordable transfer programs to four-year universities, job training, and basic skills education. They are especially important to all residents of District E's diverse urban neighborhoods. Education is the most important factor for improving the economic well-being of our working families.

As the College Board's Executive Vice-President, Peter Zschiesche works with his fellow Board members to help keep our District focused on student success. This includes:

Open and collaborative governing that is democratic and productive for students, faculty, and staff,

Exceptional labor relations that keep the focus on student learning,

Sound budgeting to offer the most classes possible,

New 21st century classrooms on every campus that save precious water, use less energy and practice recycling,

Outstanding leadership at the District and at City, Mesa, and Miramar colleges and Continuing Education, and

Policies on cultural competence that respect the diverse student body.

Peter is a proven community leader who works with other community leaders throughout District E + including in North Park, City Heights, Barrio Logan, Sherman Heights, and East Village. He continually links community college resources with community organizations and their resident constituents. He has won local community service awards from Barrio Station and the Cesar E. Chavez Commemoration Committee.

Peter uses his workforce development experience to create District policies that connect our community colleges with local businesses, including those under-represented businesses owned by disabled veterans, women, and minorities and that provide job training for real jobs.
