Smart Voter Official Statement for Maya Esparza

Candidate for
Council Member; City of San Jose; Council District 7

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

Occupation: Governing Board Member, Franklin-McKinley School District
Education and Qualifications:
Once again our neighborhoods are being neglected. We deserve better. As a Franklin-McKinley School District Trustee, I've worked to improve academic achievement for all of our children. I've balanced the budget and added after-school programs at our neediest schools. I will bring that record of success to the City Council and our neighborhoods.

The safety of our neighborhoods is my top priority. As a school board member, I worked to provide our youth with positive alternatives to gangs and drugs. As your City Councilwoman, I will:

1. Increase community policing and hire more police officers
2. Improve partnerships with schools
3. Add funds to fight gangs
4. Expand recreation programs for our youth
5. Ease traffic congestion

I'm a lifelong San Jose resident and have served our community for over 20 years. From my time as a Commissioner at the City of San Jose to Vice President at the American Red Cross Silicon Valley, I've worked hard to help improve the quality-of-life of San Jose families.

I appreciate your vote and will make your voice heard at City Hall.
