The Choice is Yours On June 3rd, you have two choices to represent our Trustee Area One on the Riverside County Board of Education. The "Incumbent" who has been sitting on the Board for the past 35 years, and myself, a proven, dedicated public education servant-leader, an individual who is committed to the best education possible for all students. It is time for a chance--I am confident we can be much better served on the county board than we are presently. I have been involved with public and community service all my life. I was raised on the principles of service and leadership, willingly giving of my time to help and serve others and fulfilling leadership roles within public service organizations and agencies. I was a member of the Lake Elsinore Unified School District Governing Board of Trustees for 24 years, having served as Board President on four occasions. I come from a family of dedicated educators, my father having served as a teacher, administrator and school district superintendent, my mother was a teacher, and my husband was a school teacher here in the county for 31 years. We are the parents of five children (two are also school teachers) and six grandchildren. By profession, I was employed as a writer for newspapers (including the Press-Enterprise and the Californian) and other publications for several decades. In addition, I am the author of six books. I'm not the kind of representative who "shows up" for meetings just to collect a monthly stipend and benefits or who makes an "appearance" at events only around election time for the publicity. Nor am I the kind of individual that encourages colleagues to double-dip by taking a stipend for meetings they cannot attend because of work that is already paying them, or makes a "junket" out of government travel using taxpayer dollars. If that's what you want, I'm NOT your person. I regularly go out and visit the classrooms in our schools; I talk to students, teachers, principals and administrators. I meet with parents and PTA groups. I learn first hand what is going on, what their needs are and how they think we can improve. Then I got to work helping to make our classrooms and schools a better place for all students. And I do it from the role of a board member, not a micro manager. If elected, I will bring a strong work ethic, a deep dedication to high quality public education for all children, and my professional and educational leadership experience to this position on the Riverside County Board of Education. Those who know me will tell you I am an honest, fair, informed and devoted public servant. They know my goal is for all students in Riverside County to receive a high quality public education and that public tax dollars allocated to education must be well spent, making them a good investment in our future. I am confident I can better serve the public than we are presently being served in our Trustee Area. If this is what you want as well, then I respectfully ask for your vote on June 3rd. Sincerely, Jeanie Corral |
