Community Policing

By Todd S. Rogers

Candidate for Sheriff; County of Los Angeles

This information is provided by the candidate
Early intervention for At-Risk youth
"In Carson, I implemented a groundbreaking community policing strategy known today as Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD). It's a community values-based approach to crime prevention that I will implement across the LASD."

Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD)

When first time offenders or defiant youth (often brought in by their parents) begin to enter a life of crime, they are diverted into the LEAD program. A small panel of law enforcement and social service experts then evaluate the individual. Based on their findings, they are placed in diversion programs appropriate to their needs. Some are given drug rehabilitation, some mental health assistance and others are placed with church or community groups to improve their core values.

As Sheriff, Todd will reorganize current diversion programs and begin the process of implementing LEAD in one station per Service Planning Area (SPA).
