Smart Voter Political Philosophy for James Hellmold

Candidate for
Sheriff; County of Los Angeles

This information is provided by the candidate

I'm not a politician, I'm a crime-fighter committed to reforming the Sheriff's Department and keeping our communities safe.

My political philosophy is simple. Make our communities safer for our families, and apply common sense and fairness to your Sheriff's Department. This will be accomplished through a progressive vision of directing law enforcement resources to address serious and violent crimes, while ensuring long-term success through education, rehabilitation, emergency preparation, school safety and crime prevention measures.

As Assistant Sheriff, I command all 23 Sheriff's Stations, covering 42 contract cities and unincorporated areas, where crime is now at the lowest levels in more than 40 years.

The Sheriff's Department is unlike any other police agency. Your Sheriff must have knowledge and experience in all Department functions, including jails, transit security, courts, contract law enforcement, school safety and emergency operations. As a 25-year veteran of the Sheriff's Department, I have credibility and respect within the organization and proven record as reformer and problem solver. I am supported by front line law enforcement, local church groups and community leaders throughout the County. After allegations of misconduct in the jails, I was brought in to implement reforms and improve jail safety. This was done through transparency to identify problems, holding people accountable, and developing policies, supervision, and training to ensure future success. Our jails are now safer than ever.

As your next Sheriff, I will ensure the Department is fair, respectful, and responsive to the needs of the entire community.

I humbly ask you to vote James Hellmold for Sheriff.
