Preparing for the Future and Modernization

By James Hellmold

Candidate for Sheriff; County of Los Angeles

This information is provided by the candidate
Modernize your Sheriff's Department to address the emergence of cyber-crime, identity theft, and advanced technologies.
Criminal enterprises have become more sophisticated with the advancement of technology. As Sheriff, I will embrace technology and modernize our Sheriff's Department to stay a step ahead of criminals, and uphold public safety. Cyber-crime, identity theft, and sophisticated technology-savvy criminals will be held accountable for "white collar crime." Priorities for the future include:

  • Equipping patrol deputies with state-of-the-art equipment for maximum efficiency

  • Expansion of crime analysis and predictive policing rather than a reactionary approach

  • Educate and inform the public about technology-related crime and develop clear reporting procedures to address the issue

  • Engage and empower our youth to be involved with law enforcement to address issues such as "cyber-bullying," and awareness of sexual predators

  • Take a modern business approach to modernize Sheriff's Department, particularly in the areas of advanced technology

  • Encourage community involvement in all aspects of technology to foster innovation and involvement with the Sheriff's Department

  • Replacing outmoded guidelines with innovative and progressive policies

  • Inclusiveness, creativity, and forecasting to ensure proper planning of future growth and development of the Sheriff's Department for long-term stability and success
