Andrew Cooper, Gang Homicide Prosecutor: The ideal candidate for JudgeBy Andrew CooperCandidate for Judge of the Superior Court; County of Los Angeles; Office 157 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Judges have more of an impact on the daily lives of the citizens in this County than any other elected official. Making the right decision on who presides over our courtrooms impacts all of us. Voters have very limited information regarding judicial candidates. What is one of the best ways to determine whom the best candidate is? Look at the current work they do for the People of this State. One of the most important responsibilities of a Superior Court Judge is to protect our families and our communities from violent predators. Roughly two-thirds of courtrooms in Los Angeles County handle criminal matters. Clearly, Los Angeles needs judges who have backgrounds in handling serious and violent felonies to ensure our families and children are safe. When prospective candidates lack such experience or only have experience deciding minor offenses, there are grave consequences for our communities. Gang Homicide Prosecutors have the experience making critical decisions that affect public safety and the liberty and rights of the accused every day. This proven decision making ability provides the best foundation for the decision-making duties of a judge. If a judge in a civil matter makes an error, someone may suffer financially. If a judge in a criminal matter makes an error, a violent criminal may strike again or an innocent person may lose their liberty. As a Gang Homicide Prosecutor, Andrew Cooper spends almost every day in our courtrooms appearing before the most experienced criminal judges. These are courtrooms where the most serious cases are heard and where matters of public safety and the liberty of the accused are decided daily. Not traffic courts. Not minor juvenile offense courts. Rather courts where cases such as the attempted murders of police officers and the killings of witnesses and children are decided. This is Andrew Cooper's experience. Andrew has prosecuted some of the most legally complex and violent cases in Los Angeles County. It is because of this experience and his qualifications to be a Judge that over 60 Superior Court Judges endorse Andrew. District Attorney Jackie Lacey and law enforcement across the County also endorse him. As a Superior Court Judge, Andrew Cooper will continue working hard for you, the People of this County, and ensure that public safety and fairness remain the priorities. |
