Why I Am Running for Magisterial District Judge and Why I Deserve Your VoteBy Toni Cavanagh DimonteCandidate for Judge; Magisterial District Court; District 32-1-28 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My educational background and wide range of legal and business experience make me the most qualified candidate to be your Magisterial District Judge. The decision you make regarding who will be your new Magisterial District Judge for District 32-1-28 is important because your District Judge is, in many ways, the gatekeeper to the rest of the judicial system. I am running for judge because I have the experience that is required and necessary to best serve the residents of the district. Ideally, a judge should know not only the law and how to apply it properly but should also have experience in practicing law, handling the types of cases that come before the court and understanding the basis for the case being presented. Of the candidates seeking your vote, I have the most extensive and relevant experience in the types of civil and criminal cases that are heard before the district court. During my seventeen years of practicing law, I have completed numerous bench trials, jury trials and arbitrations which will help me to properly and effectively preside over your district court. As a former prosecutorial intern and current assistant public defender of nine years, I bring a unique perspective to the criminal cases that come before the court because I understand them not only as a prosecutor but also as a defense attorney. As a business owner, I bring a unique perspective to the civil disputes that come before the court because I understand them not only as a lawyer, but also as an individual engaged in small business. If elected, I will decide cases in a fair, well-reasoned manner with respect for all parties. I will not encourage unnecessary litigation by sending cases to the Court of Common Pleas that may be properly disposed of at the magisterial district level. I will be mindful of and implement, where possible and appropriate, youth diversionary alternatives (community service, peer review, essay assignments, etc.) as opposed to guilty pleas by minors. I grew up in Upper Providence/Media and attended all Rose Tree Media schools until eventually graduating from Episcopal Academy. I am 44 years old and have been married for 10 years to Dr. Richard DiMonte. We have a 6 ½ year old son, Michael, and have lived in Media Borough for the last 7 years. As a member of this community for over 40 years, I have a vested interest in assuring that all of my fellow residents receive the attention, service and courtesy they deserve when they are before the Magisterial District Court for any reason. I am asking you to vote for me because I am the most qualified candidate running for the job. If I am elected, I assure you that not only will justice be well served but so will each and every resident of Magisterial District 32-1-28. |
