Of my experiences with the above organizations, I feel that several were particularly successful. Among them were ◾my direct lobbying of the State Board of Education resulting in the requirement that school districts provide special education for gifted children
◾developing training for Right to Education advocates which involved making presentations throughout the state including in Erie, Pittsburgh, Scranton and State College
◾getting the statewide Developmental Disabilities Advocacy Network off the ground.
- WCASD--Science Olympiad Program
From 1989 to 1995 I worked to support the championship Science Olympiad teams (Pierce and Henderson schools) of which my children were members. I helped found the Parent Boosters organization, raised a substantial amount of funds for their trips to tournaments around the country. The students won many awards including national gold medals. I also initiated a meeting of all of the national medaling teams with President Bush (41) at the White House. The West Chester Area School District gave me the Partners in Education Award for my participation with the Science Olympiad Program in 1993.
- Paoli Business and Professional Association--Special Recognition Award in 1992 for the great amount of work I did as an active member for this Chamber-of-Commerce-related group.
- Neighborhood Associations ◦Friends Hall Neighbors Association--As one of the leaders of a neighborhood group, I worked for a number of years in the mid 1990s in a successful effort to ensure that the Friends Hall property in West Chester would not be unsuitably developed.
