Questions & Answers
1. As the demographics change in your township, how do you plan to provide for basic services?
While the township was at one time primarily rural, the residential development in the 1990s and on has gradually caused parts of the township to take on a more suburban character. Our volunteer fire department maintains a high level of readiness at the original station on Valley Park and the newer sub-station on Pothouse. We will need to constantly evaluate the capacity of out police department and make adjustments as prudence requires. As for schools, the school board has appointed both short and long term planning committees to address school population and needs in light of projected increases in student population. Other concerns should be addressed by judicious application of the townships existing ordinances, including zoning, historical, building and planning and open space with a view toward cooperation and resolution. Where necessary to address changing characteristics of the township, new ordinances may need to be considered. Atop all of the above is the need to have sound fiscal policies in the township - i.e. maintain a strong financial position.
