Road & Rail Changes Need Close Attention to Preserve Our Quality of LifePosition Paper My grandfather worked on the original Panama Canal as a surveyor in the jungle. By 2014-15, opening of the newly widened Panama Canal means large container ships will now come to US southern ports served by CSX north-south rail lines like Wyoming's rail corridor. The noise and traffic issues from 96 or more trains each day will require serious inter-community planning of compliance with federal rail noise control measures. I hope to have continued cooperation with bordering communities. Postponement of I-75 rework in our area for several years means we must stay alert to hold state officials to their pledge to retain Galbraith Rd. northbound access to Wyoming. I'm well known to ODOT and OKI officials for advocacy of "our" exit, to avoid their cutting Galbraith to save on road funds. I also am focused on how Lockland I-75 southbound exit is moving south to Celotex site and its effect on Millsdale, Cooper and Wyoming Ave. traffic loads. |
