Reducing train horn volumeBy Jenni McCauleyCandidate for Member Council at Large; City of Wyoming | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
CSX train line has become more heavily used and train horns, much louder in the last 10 years. Reducing noise volume to a reasonable level is important to our way of life. Likely it will become more important in the future if the Port Authority of Greater Cinti achieves its goal of making Cincinnati a primary inland port resulting in greater train usage. All of our neighbors have similar concerns so I and the City Manager obtained cooperation from all of our neighbors along the line( Cincinnati, Lockland, Woodlawn) plus Glendale to work cooperatively on this issue. This also addresses a CSX priority of a longer quiet or quieter zone. Wyoming has completed noise studies to verify our noise pollution, identified our options and made priorities. Further progress stopped when all local governments had funding reductions from the state. Our neighbors are all in much tighter budget scenerios than Wyoming. OKI may be a source of funds. Jim O'Reily, a member of my committee, is looking for any possible funding there in his role as our OKI representative . I look forward to getting back "on track "as soon as possible. |
