1. What are your qualifications for office?
Answer from Joseph L. Pahls:
I am a Certified Public Accountant with 23 years of accounting experience. I have worked with clients of all sizes both in the for profit and not for profit sectors helping them in their financial matters. Financial management experience is an important skill to possess for any candidate for city treasurer.
2. What services do you believe should be considered basic and essential for the City?
Answer from Joseph L. Pahls:
Police, Fire, Sanitation and Safety are basic essential services for any city. The treasurer is responsible for making sure the financial resources are available so these services are paid for.
3. How would you balance the City Budget?
Answer from Joseph L. Pahls:
The City Budget is ultimately the responsibility of council but the treasurer plays an important role by providing timely financial information so all of the decision makers know the financial status of the City.
4. Citizen engagement is important to the health of local government. In what ways do you support citizen engagement?
Answer from Joseph L. Pahls:
I support the right of every citizen to be heard. Local government should reflect the values of the citizens they represent and the only way those values become known is through citizen engagement.
