Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Brett McBay

Candidate for
Board Member; Modesto City Schools; Full Term

This information is provided by the candidate

I want to ensure the educational and economic future of our great community. Our schools need to be equipped to provide academic and athletic excellence, civic responsibly and individual character.

Modesto is where my family has lived for three generations. It is where I started my own family and where I founded and opened my business fifteen years ago.

As President of a successful Central Valley business, a board member of the Stanislaus Literacy Center, A District Representative for Assemblymember Kristin Olsen, with a bachelor's degree in Government and Economics: I will make sound decisions affecting our next generation of students.

I Pledge:

Promote individual, community and local business involvement

This community, our community is where the foundation of our children's futures will be formed. We bear the responsibility to provide that uniquely American dream of college or career. Let us promote individual, community and local business to support our local schools and programs.

Develop programs that address the growing problem of declining male graduation rates

The unacceptable graduation rate among boys and young men must be immediately dealt with. A generation of young men are falling behind and the social ramifications are frightening. Recent national studies have graduation rates among young men falling to 65%. We need to develop programs that encourage interactive learning. Programs that combine collage and career studies in real world applications. It is imperative that we put an emphasis on addressing the growing problem of declining male graduation rates.

Foster civic responsibility, national pride and moral character

The school system has become more than just reading, writing and arithmetic. Today, teachers, coaches and mentors are being called upon to fill the gap as the American family structure deteriorates. That being the case, we need to provide the tools for our teachers and program leaders to instill a sense of community, civility and character. Good citizens are the product of positive role models. America is still the most amazing country with the most incredible opportunities. Let's make sure our children know its history, heritage and tradition so they too can be part of a positive American future.

Support policies that ensure parental control and involvement

First and foremost, the children in the care of the public school system are your kids. Children with parents who are actively involved in their schools, activities and curriculum have an exponentially higher rate of success.

Operate with fiscal responsibility and sound business practices

It never ceases to amaze me how money seems to lose its value when it is viewed solely as tax dollars and not the hard earned income of the individual. I will never lose sight of that fact. I will not support frivolous spending, unnecessary bonds or costly borrowing. The District is a large institution which should and can be governed in a fiscally sound manner.

Increase support for coaches, teachers and mentors

Teachers, coaches and mentors need our support in our joint effort to meet the needs of all our students. Compensation should be competitive with a renewed emphasis on supporting Coaches and program mentors.

Encourage athletic and academic competition

Athletic competition, the Arts and academic competition need to be part of a complete education. The need to challenge our students through competition will create bonds of friendship, provide role models, stretch their limits and stimulate their hunger for success. I want to promote such programs and increase support for the teachers, coaches and mentors who volunteer their time.

The future; simply glance into the nearest classroom or onto the local playground and the future of our city can be clearly seen. In just a few years or less this will be next generation of Modesto citizens, employees and businesspeople.

Let's make sure we have a school system that is providing a top notch education for all our students.

I will always answer to the citizens of Modest. My decisions will be based solely on what is best for the students, parents, teachers and taxpayers of our amazing community.

It would be an honor to serve.

I respectfully ask for your vote,

Brett McBay
