Accomplishments over the past 16+ years.I am extremely proud of my accomplishments over the extent of my term of serving on the Board of Directors of the Bodega Bay Fire Protection District. I have been instrumental in forming the fire district to become what it is...a vital need to the community that supports it. Due to the rural location of our large district, it has been necessary to formulate a staff of paramedic-firefighting trained personnel to protect and serve the people of the district who have supported the district financially by paying one of the highest assessments in the County and State. In recent years, it has become more and more apparent that we are obligated to also serve the large and growing tourist industry in the area and this has placed an added burden on the financial needs for operating the District. We have not gone to the voters to add to their tax burden for almost 10 years, wishing to keep their burden at the minimum extent possible for as long as possible. With the economy and healthcare costs rising at an alarming rate, we have initiated an alternative funding committee to seek additional funding from the County of Sonoma. As a member of this committee, I have been instrumental in receiving some funds from the TOT taxes paid by the businesses in this area to the County, and I hope to be able to continue this important work in the near future. |
