A record of success in delivering affordable and excellent higher education

As your elected San Mateo County Community College District Trustee I've worked for excellent, affordable higher education. Our District ranks high in rates of degree completion and transfer to four-year colleges.

I've played a leadership role in making San Mateo County Community College District the Peninsula's premier career training agency. We met the nursing shortage by doubling the number of RNs trained at our colleges. We retrained laid-off airline workers for high wage biotech jobs.

Our colleges prepare the next generation for careers in computer technology, accounting and business, the growing clean energy field, and police and firefighting services. Our courses enable mid-career workers to upgrade their skills.

We've won two Sustainable San Mateo County Awards for our pioneering "green building" environmental design of new classrooms, libraries and laboratories.

When Sacramento slashed education funding, I insisted on carefully balanced budgets and controlled spending. We preserved vital academic and vocational programs without layoffs or pay or benefit cuts.

I want to continue working to strengthen local higher education. I've earned the support of college faculty, small businesses and organized labor.

Tough times call for seasoned leadership. I have an unmatched 19 year record in elected office balancing complex budgets while maintaining essential services with fewer funds.
