Brief History and Why I Am RunningBy Arthur C. "Bud" Eisberg, Jr.Candidate for Council Member; Town of Portola Valley | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
How I differ from the other candidatesI first drove through Portola Valley in 1970 when I was a Naval officer at Moffett Field and new to the area. I was immediately attracted to the beauty and character of the town and, within a month, was living in a rented house on Alpine Rd. Several years later I bought a home, got married, and we raised two sons. They attended local schools from Windmill Preschool through Woodside High. Lynn and I were always involved in their classrooms, sporting teams, and the local scout troop. These were great times for us. We should ensure the Town maintains its family atmosphere and activities so that others may enjoy similar experiences. Some folks consider me a one issue candidate because of my recent involvement with affordable housing. This is not the case. However, addressing that subject is very important to the Town during the next year as we rewrite our Housing Element and obtain its certification. I am happy to have helped start a conversation on the matter, and I served on the recent Affordable Housing Ad Hoc Committee. Our report will assist in moving forward toward solutions. My candidacy is not about bringing big changes to Portola Valley. I have devoted a lot of time and energy to a community I am very fond of. I feel, however, we could improve the way we carry out our business: -Listen to what our people want and ensure we act openly -Move our difficult decisions along more efficiently -Rely more on evidence, less on emotion -Offer incentives rather than mandates when possible -Be practical and use common sense when needed There is an abundance of talent and goodwill in Portola Valley and, when harnessed, accomplishes great things. The Historic Schoolhouse and Town Center are two examples. I would appreciate your vote for Portola Valley Town Council. To endorse my candidacy please email aceisberg@aol.com indicating name(s). |
