Dr. Douglass has worked in a wide variety of jobs through her life, but has seldom ranged far from education. As an undergraduate student she worked as a math tutor. As a graduate student she taught, first as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, then as adjunct faculty at UCSB in Summer 1994, and again, after completing the PhD., at San Francisco State University in Fall 1997 and Spring 1999, before focusing on raising her two sons. Since 2001, she has worked part-time at the Westlake branch of the Daly City Public Library.

Other Work and Activities

In 2011, Dr. Douglass published her first book, a novel for children ages 8-14, which has also found a ready audience among adults, followed by a picture book in May 2013 and the sequel to her first novel in August 2013. She does classroom visits to give readings and discuss the writing process at no cost to any class or school, and greatly enjoys sharing with the students.

Dr. Douglass began volunteering the the schools as soon as her older son started school, and served on the PTA Board at Marjorie Tobias Elementary from 2002 through 2010, and continues to serve the PTO of her sons' high school now.

In addition to education and literacy, Dr. Douglass is passionate about the outdoors, spending recreation time biking, hiking, and backpacking with her family.
