My Interest in the Trustee RoleBy Andrea K. PierpontCandidate for Board Member; Larkspur-Corte Madera School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I've been a resident of Corte Madera for 14 years. My husband and I have two daughters, ages 11 and 13, who have been attending the public schools in the district, starting in Kindergarten at NC and are now at Hall Middle School. Our district is growing...not only in student head count, which is a wonderful albeit challenging by-product of the highly praised district we have worked to build, but as an organizational body of educators, administrators, board members, parents, students, and community businesses and citizens. We're all part of our public school system. Our District is also experiencing dynamic changes and transitions today and in the years ahead. In addition to opening and integrating a new, third school to our district + and all that comes with making that a smooth and successful transition + we are adapting the nationwide Common Core Standards, exploring collaborative teaching practices, looking at how we use technology in instruction, learning how we can integrate arts into curriculum, we see our teachers needing time for professional development, we feel the continued growth in student enrollment AND we're transitioning to a new funding formula that effects our budget and our way of managing resources locally. There is no doubt more that I have missed mentioning. It's amazing how many pieces of this picture are at play, for everyone. I'm excited about and believe in the direction our district is headed. I know there is continued hard work ahead. Working well with the superintendent, administration, educators, parents, students, and community businesses and citizens will be essential. My experience on the Measure A campaign has given me perspective in this process. I want to be part of a productive, thoughtful, collaborative, action-oriented board that can provide strong leadership to the district and communicate well with our community through these dynamic years ahead. I will bring my experience working on the successful 2011 Measure A "Facilities" Bond campaign to this role. I'll draw on my corporate organizational design and management background and my communication and analytical thinking skills to help solve problems and move initiatives forward. It would be my honor to serve on the Larkspur-Corte Madera School Board. |
