Keep Tam Valley's Community Strong

There is an amazing sense of community within Tam Valley. The TCSD helps inspire this through many areas + not only our excellent Parks and Recreation Department with activities such as Creekside Fridays, Oktoberfest, Spaghetti Bingos and community theatre, along with many classes and tours, but also with programs in our Refuse and Sanitation Departments. Our green waste and food waste program have tripled in the past five years. Since 2006, the garbage that ends up in the landfill has been reduced from twenty-four hundred tons to fifteen hundred tons a year. Our collection and recycling efforts are among the broadest in the county with curbside e-waste collection, and battery, light bulb, medical waste, eye glasses and printer cartridges recycling. We offer twice-yearly drop-off days for refuse, chipping and shredding. In Sanitation, we are one of the few districts to offer free sewer lateral inspections and low-interest repair loans to homeowners. To date, over 200 homeowners have taken advantage of these loans.

My goal for the future of the TCSD is to continue to offer the high service levels while controlling costs. We have been able to maintain a balanced budget over the past few years with minimal increases in fees. We need to focus on our aging sewer system, and implement a repair schedule to reduce the amount of inflow and infiltration (groundwater and stormwater that enters our sewer system through aging pipes, both in the streets and through private laterals on homeowner's property). And we want to continue our efforts toward zero waste.
