Candidate for
Board Member; Monterey Peninsula Water Management District; Division 1

I have been a resident of, or had ties with, the Monterey Peninsula since my family moved here in 1969. I have been a Realtor for 30 years; proud of the many transactions I have made in helping people become successful homeowners and contributors to the community.

I attended Walter Colton Junior High School, and Monterey High School, where I was involved in football, wrestling and gymnastics. I joined the Fellowship of Christian Athletes through Coach Ken White, and, at the urging of Coach Dan Albert, I ran for and was elected Student Body President of Monterey High School my senior year.

So I have been the beneficiary of tutelage by two legendary coaches who went on to become mayors of Carmel (White) and Monterey (Albert).

I received an Associate of Arts degree in Business Management from Monterey Peninsula College, and studied business at California State University, Sacramento.

In 1982, I got my real estate license in a time of 17 percent interest rates, but I survived and became assistant manager of a 50-person office in my third year. I was in charge of training. Then I moved back to the Peninsula in 1997 after my father died and my mother, Marlene, asked me to join her at Shankle Real Estate in Monterey.

I have been President of the Monterey County Association of Realtors (2007-2008), Realtor of the Year in 2007, and I have served on the Realtor's Local Government Relations Committee, on the Board of Realtors Political Action Committee, and on the regional caucus of the Realtors' boards in Monterey, Santa Cruz, Watsonville and Hollister. I have served on the Board of Directors of the MLS Listings Inc., and on the board of the California Association of Realtors. I am also a volunteer for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament, and a member of the Monterey Elks Lodge.

I am married to Karen, have one son, five stepchildren, and 11 grandchildren.
