Candidate StatementBy Leo K. DikinisCandidate for Board Member; Mendocino Coast Recreation & Park District | |

I believe in transparency, accountability and service. The District's vast service area stretches from Gualala to Westport with a disproportionate amount of assets located in the Fort Bragg area. My background is in management and finance. I have worked in Mendocino County in banking, forest products and the wine industry. Recently, I served on the 2011 - 2012 Mendocino County Grand Jury. I am running because I care about the ongoing financial security of the District and will work to bring as many services as our limited budget allows to all the residents of the Mendocino Coast. The C.V. Starr Center needs to be managed to financially stand on its own. The continuing financial expense to cover the boondoggles of the past must be eliminated and these funds freed up to provide services where they are chronically needed. We must resolve the petty squabbles of the past. The MCRPD needs to work closely with other public and private providers of recreation services to avoid unnecessary duplication and to leverage and enhance each other's programs. With the long distances involved living on the coast, seniors, families with children and young adults need a convenient and safe place to gather that does not require a round trip over 100 miles to Fort Bragg especially with the ever increasing cost of gasoline. The Mendocino Coast Recreation and Park District is tasked to provide services to all members of the community. Outreach programs for small employers and community groups need to be established to bring services directly to those who are most impacted and least able to travel the long distances involved. Our community is strong and diverse with a sprit that demands services that have been paid for. In these times, efficiencies from government are necessary and real. As a member of the board, I will work diligently on representing the specific needs of each area and I will reign in unnecessary spending and special interest projects. I ask for your vote to serve as your director on the Mendocino Coast Recreation and Park District board. Respectfully Submitted, Leo K. Dikinis |
