Based upon the conversations I've been having with citizens across Glendora, I found that many people have the same questions. Here you will find a few of those questions and my responses. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my candidacy. Why are you running for Glendora School Board? I am excited to run because our school district is ready for someone with a fresh perspective and new ideas, someone who is in touch with the students and knows firsthand the challenges they are facing today. As a Glendora graduate myself, I have recently experienced the rigorous competition in modern college admissions, graduate school admissions, demands of college courses, and difficultly securing a job in a tough economy. I want to share what I have learned and experienced with today's students to better prepare them to meet these challenges with success. My skills and experience in law and accounting will be a valuable addition to the Board. I am eager to contribute my education from USC School of Accounting and UCLA School of Law, and my experience as a tax attorney for the United States Department of the Treasury to help our district successfully encounter all future budgetary issues. Tell me about your guest-teaching at Glendora High. I was a guest teacher at Glendora High School in the Spring of 2011. I guest-taught 3 periods of 12th-grade government students every Friday. I taught them constitutional law, criminal law, civil law, and trial procedure. We also conducted two mock-trials, Three Little Pigs v. Big Bad Wolf and Bears v. Gold E. Locks. I thoroughly enjoyed being back in the classroom. This experience is what inspired me to run for Glendora School Board. I loved interacting with the students, hearing from them the challenges they face, and sharing with them my experiences as a Glendora graduate. What is your opinion of Glendora teachers? Good teachers make a good school district. Glendora Unified is a top-notch school district because we have the best teachers around. As a former Glendora student myself, I know firsthand the immense value of Glendora teachers and owe much of my success to their efforts. As a board member, I will work closely with teachers in making decisions. The way I see it, there is only one group of people within Glendora Unified that interact with our students everyday, and that is our teachers. It is essential that the school board members be in direct communication with our teachers and solicit their input at every opportunity. I will regularly meet with our teachers to hear first-hand the issues and successes in educating our students. How would you address budgetary challenges? I believe that all stakeholders should be involved in budgetary decisions. We must incorporate teachers, parents, students, and staff in decisions. If we do so, then all assets will be utilized, everyone will be invested in the outcome, and there will be less resistance. This will reduce waste, eliminate redundancy, and allow us to achieve our goals more efficiently. |
