Pat Carmody - Biography A lifetime resident of the Philadelphia area, Pat is a graduate of Penn State University and George Washington University Law School. He financed both his undergraduate and graduate education by working while attending school. During and after law school, he worked a variety of legal jobs, broadening his experience. They included: legal aid, criminal defense, labor and family law at organizations like the Senior Citizen's Law Project, the Department of Labor and the American Bar Association. After law school, he was a a Judicial law clerk for Chief United States Magistrate Tullio G. Leomporra for two years, drafting judicial opinions and jury instructions concerning civil and criminal law. Since 1984, he has worked at the Chester County District Attorney Office where he advanced to serve as First Assistant District Attorney from 2002 until 2011. He is currently the Chief of Trials and oversees all diversionary programs in the county. This includes the First offender program (ARD), and Mental Health, Drug and Veteran's court. At that office, he has tried approximately one hundred jury and non jury trials and handled thousands of cases, ranging from complex white collar cases to homicides. In addition to litigation, he has experience as a decision maker, teacher, and writer. He lectures on litigation, evidence and the Constitution for attorneys, law students and college students. In 2010, the Pennsylvania District Attorney Association gave Pat an award for "exemplary service" as an instructor. He has taught at West Chester University since 1994. He has extensive legal writing experience and has written for the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Daily Local News and commented on legal issues on various television shows including It's Your Call. Patrick and his wife Peg have been part of the Chester County Community for over 25 years, raising their 3 children here. The family are active volunteers with a number of community organizations. |
