1. How would you promote good nutrition in your schools?
|
Answer from Joseph D "Joe" Starcheski:
My wife works in the Oxford Area High School cafeteria. This allows me insite into the waste that occurs as result of well intended, yet sometimes misguided federal and state nutritional guidelines that have been implemented. I suggest that the students' mandatory menu programs are better handled as a local matter.
Answer from Dominic J. Pirocchi:
Include nutrition in our curriculum where it is taught and emphasized across multiple disciplines. Posters and flyers around the schools to remind and reinforce the message. Include the parents with email communications, information on our website, and evening seminars held within our schools they are invited to attend. Work with the school administration to ensure that the food being served in our cafeterias reflects our commitment to good nutrition.
