Hire a Fire Chief that works at the pleasure and performance of the Coastside Fire Protection District's Board of Directors and commit to providing the resources and tools to build a successful team of employees for our community's benefit. Promote long-term locally minded fire staff that are part of our community. Maintain objective progress while investigating solutions that continually improve the levels of service for our community's fire service within our budget. Rebuild our relationship with the HMB Volunteer Firefighters and incorporate a 4 person on our 3 person engines using volunteers or cadets. Improve relationship with other municipalities, districts and agencies. Find ways to maintain or increase levels of service and cost savings. Includes having monthly meetings between CFPD, SMC Sheriffs, Harbor District, School District, Water District and Sewer District. Embrace public and private sector relationships and create stronger bonds with our community by fostering more outreach, education and fire prevention. Research ways to restore what Coastside Fire once provided prior to Cal Fire like a vibrant water rescue program, a stellar cliff rescue programs that set the bar for all other departments throughout the state and finding a solution for a second ambulance on the Coastside. Improve relationship with other municipalities, districts and agencies. Find ways to maintain or increase levels of service and cost savings. Includes having monthly meetings between CFPD and local police, sheriffs, harbor district, school district, water district and sewer district. Embrace public and private sector relationships. Increase community relationships and outreach to deliver information regarding current events for local involvement, fundraisers, meet and greets for CFPD, etc... Examples are a like Farm Day, Chamber Luncheons. Have a Facebook Fan Page, Twitter feeds and more dynamic information on the website (not so stagnant). Show off our accomplishments and accolades and upcoming news. Encourage other entities to have their meetings in our boardroom and facilities. Find ways to take advantage of technology to improve website and information technology within the district. Example: have videos of board meetings play from the CFPD website rather than linking to Montarafog.com. Increase the ease of use regarding technology for both district personnel and board members. District might need to look into upgrading hardware and software. Look into having real redundancies in place incase internet and phones go out in a disaster and have several different video feeds for cable or satellite TV. Work closer with HAM Radio operators and organizations like CERT, CEAP, COPE and MRC. Discover ways to increase public participation in board meetings. Develop type of measurement tool in which we can ask the public for suggestions/comments on how CFPD can better serve the Coastside people and track the suggestions and follow through with this tool. So often we ask for suggestions and ideas but don't track progress and outcome, more public involvement. Increase Board development through workshops, retreats and building exercises. Additionally, increase leadership and team building within the management of the fire service team and board members. Example: ask board members to have intimate knowledge of how fire service works by doing ride-a-longs, partner-up with different personnel and rotate bi-annually. If everything is working well there should be no surprises and universal openness. |
