Julie has been a Carson homeowner for over 40 years. Her long history of community involvement includes serving as President of the Carson Women's Club, serving four terms as President of Friends of the Carson Library,serving as Presidnet of our local Parent Teacher Association and serving as Chair of Carson's Public Relations Commission. Julie is the recipient of the NAACP Legislative Award, the Cesar Chavez Community Service Award, the Cal State Dominguez Hills High Steps Achiever's Community Partner Award. Julie was named the 55th Assembly District Woman of the Year by the late Assemblywoman Jenny Oropeza. During her eight years on the Carson City Council, Julie has distinguished herself as an effective, commmon sense leader that brings people together to get positive things done. Julie worked at Farmers Brothers Coffee Company for over twenty three years and as a Community Services Teacher at Los Angeles Harbor College for over 30 years. She and her husband, Brian have 4 adult sons and 10 grandchildren. As a member of Carson's City Council Julie Ruiz-Raber has worked to: > Create Jobs by recruiting new businesses to Carson and cutting red tape at City Hall so existing busnesses can expand. >Improve neighborhood safety and school programs that keep our kids safe. >Protect our quality of life and preserve funding for critical city services that our seniors and youth rely on. >She has been a leader in controlling Carson's budget. As s result Carson has a balanced budget with a $21 million reserve with no city employee layoffs or serious cutbacks in services. >Under Julies leadership Carson has employed a new City Manager, City Caterer and saved the city over $150,000 by appointing and not electing a new City Clerk.
