Candidate for
Council Member; City of Simi Valley

Mr. Shannon has spent his professional career associated with the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies. Beginning his association as an employee in 1977 in the Los Angeles Home Office, he transferred to the Simi Valley Office in 1982. Mr. Shannon has been in Field Management from 1983, becoming an independent contractor with the firm in 1987 as a District Manager where he enjoyed helping individuals pursue their entrepreneurial dreams by assisting them in developing their own independent businesses with the full backing and support of the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies. In October of 2005 Mr. Shannon sold that business and started a Farmers Agency as he felt after 22 years in Field Management that he wanted to take a new direction and develop his own clientèle, offering advice and guidance on his clients insurance and financial service programs!

As one who believes strongly that quality of Life in any community depends upon the strength of an active business community, Mr. Shannon has lent his time and expertise to many organizations within the Simi Valley Community. As a graduate of the Leadership Simi Valley, class of '91 he immediately was appointed chair of the Leadership Alumni Association. Mr. Shannon served as Chair of Neighborhood Council #3 from 1991-1993, served on the Board of Directors for the American Heart Association from 1991-1993 holding the post of Development Chair. From 1992 through 1999 Mr. Shannon served on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club, holding the position of President during 1994 and 1995 and also served as the Chair of the Capital Campaign to fund the construction of the current home of the Boys & Girls Club. In 1997 Mr. Shannon became a Director of the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce and served as President of the Board in 1999-2000. He also was the founding Chair of the Simi Valley Community Foundation in 2000-2001. Mr. Shannon has served on the Board of Directors for the Simi Valley Police Foundation from 2000 until July, 2008 and was that organizations President in 2003. As a member of the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise since 1993, Mr. Shannon has served in several Director capacities, including International Service, Community Service, Treasurer and Chair of the organizations biggest fundraiser, The Cajun Creole Music Festival in 2003. He served as President of that organization in the Rotary Year 2009-2010. Mr. Shannon currently serves on the Governing Board of Simi Valley Hospital and is Chair of the Medical Staff Development Committee. Mr. Shannon was named Business Person of the year by the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce in 2003 and was appointed to the Simi Valley Planning Commission in January of 2005 serving until 2010 and was Chair of the Commission in 2007 and 2008. In 2012 Shannon was honored by the Chamber of Commerce as the recipient of the Strathearn Lifetime Achievement Award for all of his efforts in the community .

Mr. Shannon holds the designation of Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow conferred by the National Association of Life Underwriters, The Associate in Management and Associate in General Insurance designations conferred by the Insurance Institute of America and was a member of the Charter class receiving The Chartered Leadership Fellow designation conferred by the American College.
