Sylvia Schnopp Announces Re-Election Campaign to Port Hueneme City Council
(Port Hueneme, CA) Announcing her re-election campaign for Port Hueneme City Council, Sylvia Muņoz Schnopp believes in local government running effectively and efficiently through leaders who develop sustainable programs, implement best practices and solve financial crises.
"My leadership on City Council led to successful quality initiatives resulting in overall improvements for infrastructure investment, our local police force and encouraging job retention and creation. I am committed to improving our quality of life and developing constituent access to resources," Schnopp said.
Schnopp encouraged new ways of thinking which offered a fresh approach to many of the city's dilemmas. "Common sense, coupled with my business, financial and technology background allowed us to move through the quagmire of challenges. To maintain service levels with less revenue one has to think differently. We must make sound policy decisions and be quick on our feet as a result of budget decisions made here and in Sacramento," she added.
She serves on the board of the Economic Development Collaborative of Ventura County (EDC-VC), with the added responsibility of Treasurer/Secretary. "Entrepreneurs need free resources, strategic consulting and access to capital and we succeed when they succeed. It's important to encourage job creation in Port Hueneme and Ventura County."
Schnopp served on the city's Water Rate, Sandcastle and Audit Committees. She currently serves on the Board of the Ventura County Council of Governments (VCOG), California Joint Powers in Insurance Agency (CJPIA), St. John's Regional Medical Center and The Museum of Ventura County. She served as a Ventura County Library Services Commissioner.
She is endorsed by City Council colleagues Jonathan Sharkey, Norm Griffaw and Mayor Douglas Breeze as well as community leaders Hank Lacayo, Orvene Carpenter, Tony Grey, Ped Bucao, California Assemblyman 37th District Jeff Gorrell and Ventura County Republican Committee.
Schnopp was elected to the Port Hueneme City Council in 2008 and served as Mayor in 2010-2011. A 27-year resident of Port Hueneme and native of Oxnard, she's an adjunct business professor at Oxnard College and owns Schnopp Consulting Group. A veteran of corporate and nonprofit organizations, she directed national, regional and local efforts in marketing, public relations, communications and management operations. She created the nationally-acclaimed United Way "Day of Caring" in 1989 that provides a day of service to hundreds of thousands of volunteers each year. During her term as Mayor in 2011, she spearheaded the "Day of Caring Mayor's Project" with mayors from Ventura County cities helped rebuild Port Hueneme's Bubbling Springs Park playground.
