Fiscal Responsibility + Ensure the Best use of Our Tax DollarsBy Mark S. Littleton, Jr.Candidate for Council Member; City of Simi Valley | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Fiscal responsibility includes planning for contingencies, where is our contingency plan? Plans that go well beyond backup and recovery for our City. We have no ability to change direction in a timely manner. If we have a major disaster that impacts a major portion of Los Angeles including the San Fernando Valley, Chatsworth etc.. Do you think FEMA is going to care about little old Simi Valey first. No they will not. We need to have a plan in place to sustain ourselves. We have 2 water pipelines coming into our city. I asked our Public Works Director if he would consider that enough redundancy and he said to me. "It is not about that, but yes". It is about that, I am not saying we are in trouble but in a disaster, water, viable hospital and communications will be very important. High local tax loads are linked directly to frivolous City Spending. I will oppose actions such as the $4 million dollars being spent expanding our City Hall building to incorporate the environmental services department. This type of decision runs along the lines of our Simi Valley Town Center that did not have a chance to make it. We cannot afford these types of mistakes. We need to continue to expand our Hospital and build a City Resumption plan. Not just some document real action items implemented with our tax dollars to ensure our saftey. ˇ I will oppose all tax increases that place an unfair, useless burden on my fellow citizens such as the proposed 3% tax on the sale of our homes that the Obama Administration will try to move forward with if he is elected which will then be moved into high gear. We can oppose that at the City/County level. ˇ I am a strong advocate of using revenue to create efficiencies in the system to cut government bureaucracy. Big goverment is overspending at best. It solves nothing. We need equal pay for equal work, WHO ARE COMPETENT. ˇ I would like to create a local citizen tax association that is represented by third party local accountants, fiscally experienced citizens, and union leaders that can make unbiased suggestions to the City on how to best use our tax dollars from their perspectives. We need community interaction on this subject to question the motives of our leaders. |
