I view our government as a mechanism for us to do together those things we cannot do individually. It is also a way to pursue our common aspirations. However, government should never replace or impede our personal liberties.

Most of us are fed up with government gridlock, and with politicians who serve parties or campaign contributors but not the majority of constituents.

That's why I am running as an independent: to end the bickering, the backroom deals and the brinksmanship.

My intention is to serve in Congress the same way I have served in journalism and in business. I plan to be an honest broker, to gather the best available information, and to vote in the best interests of my entire district.

The U.S. Government Code of Ethics requires public servants to put loyalty to country ahead of loyalty to party. I intend to obey that rule.
