Los Angeles) Mervin Evans, Candidate for State Assembly from the 62nd District has asked Gov. Brown to block a $30M Taxpayer Contribution for 49ers stadium.LETTER to GOV. BROWN TO FOLLOW Gov. Brown: California is in trouble. Our citizens are suffering. This is perhaps no more apparent than right here in the South Bay, where unemployment, despair and economic malaise are deep and painful. I see companies leaving California; and it's because of bad economics and bad government policy. I see young mothers who need Child Care and Job Training to get off Welfare. The Los Angeles Times has stated: "Now, Sen. Elaine Alquist (D-Santa Clara) has drafted legislation to help with the construction of a football stadium in her hometown for the San Francisco 49ers. With a month left in the legislative session, Alquist has acted to gut and amend a bill on teacher credentialing to instead provide that up to $30 million in redevelopment funds be made available for the new 49ers stadium." Gov. Brown, a new stadium would automatically increase the value of the 49ers as a team (estimated to be as much as $200 million), as well as allow for higher ticket prices. The 49ers would receive all NFL revenue (tickets, advertising, broadcasting) at a stadium in Santa Clara, as well as 1/2 of all non-NFL revenue. In addition, the 49ers would not share club or luxury seating revenue with Santa Clara. Even for non-NFL events, the team would get the additional revenue charged by club or luxury seating. Jed York the CEO of the 49ers is not a poor guy! Forbes listed the York Family net worth as $900 million. Why should the Taxpayers underwrite a new stadium while you are asking for a set of Tax Hikes? Would you ask your staff to call me and give me your point of view. Is Sacramento for Sale to the Highest Bidder? Thank You, MERVIN EVANS |
