- I am a fiscal conservative who believes that we must live within out means. I am opposed to debt and I firmly believe that government must reflect the very best of the civilian sector and be comparable to this sector. By in large the employees of Healdsburg are outstanding and fully supportive of fiscal restraint by the city government. However, through actions by the state and others, the salary level of some employees have become well in excess of their civilian counterparts. Further, similar pressures have developed "defined benefit pensions" that are completely unsupportable by any government agency. In that a major portion of the problem lies with the state and CALPERS, Healdsburg can only do so much to resolve the problem. However, Healdsburg can lobby the state to take corrective actions and work within the limits as defined to control the future growth of salaries and pension liabilities.
- Healdsburg is a great place to live and growth is in our future. One can not stop the growth but one can manage it intelligently. We need to have well developed plans that can be presented to future developers. We need to have reasonable rules and procedures for developers to follow. We need to have partnership between the city organization and the developer to ensure that we do not lose our unique character as a country town.
