Susan moved to Sonoma County 30 years ago with her husband Joe, an Agilent Technologies engineer. As her daughters attended public schools, Susan seized the opportunity to finish her college education, graduating from SRJC and then Sonoma State University in 1991. Her community service started with her children's schools and quickly expanded to a variety of non-profit organizations. Susan was elected to the Santa Rosa School Board in 1996. In 2006 she won election and then re-election to the Santa Rosa City Council, serving as Mayor from 2008 to 2010.
