Political Philosophy for Ed Gilardi

I have always insisted on community outreach and involvement in working on issues that face our schools. That's why some of our most difficult decisions have been thoroughly analyzed first by parent/community advisory groups solicited through fliers sent home with students. The advisory committee input is greatly appreciated and not taken lightly. From the beginning, I supported the Technology High School Program at Sonoma State, which opened in the fall of 1999. These intense math, science and engineering courses prepare students for the ever changing needs of today's high-tech businesses. Our innovative program and unique relationship with Sonoma State University and technology businesses is now being recognized around the State. During my watch, and despite facing severe State and Federal funding cuts, the District has continued to offer all students a variety of challenging programs, improve and expand technology and vocational programs and, most importantly restoration of class size reduction in all kindergarten through 3rd grade classes. I believe every student should be a lifelong learner. In support of this philosophy, I completed the "Master of Boardsmanship" program and am enrolled in the "Master of Governance" program. Both are offered by the California School Boards Association to provide education and development of School Board members. All California schools are facing severe funding shortfalls. However, I have advocated in both Sacramento and Washington DC on behalf of our students for improvements in funding, standards and education reform. Additionally I was recently elected by the trustees of school boards throughout Sonoma County to represent all Sonoma County students as California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly 2012. |
