We must look forward with education for our children foremost in mind balanced with the fiscal restraints we face.
During my watch the District has avoided a State takeover, despite facing severe State and Federal funding cuts, $8.4 million alone in the last 4 years. The County Office of Education which oversees our budget has stated that we will be able to meet all of our fiscal requirements for the next 2 years, avoiding a state takeover. This is a result of long term planning, tough decisions, and sacrifices made by our dedicated employees throughout the district.
- Despite these severe funding cuts, our schools have continued to offer rigorous programs, expand technology and vocational programs, lower class sizes and have seen improved student test scores.
- My priorities have always been and continue to be, open public fiscal accountability, retaining and recruiting competent teachers and administrators and creating a safe learning environment that enhances the full potential of all students.
- I have supported reconfiguring our elementary schools to better meet the needs of our parents. We now offer a variety of choices including a K-6 grade year-round program, a K-8 grade program, a K-3 grade and a 4-6 grade program. We also have expanded the 6th grade offerings at Lawrence Jones Middle School.
