A peninsula native, born, bred and educated in the Bay Area, David Canepa has been serving the people of Daly City since he was sworn in on December 4, 2008 as a member of its City Council.

As a Councilmember, David has demonstrated such leadership on such issues as:

Balancing our Budget. Improving our Economy. Enhancing the Quality of Life of our Neighborhoods. Protecting our Environment. Focusing on seniors.

Canepa also fought hard to oppose San Francisco's attempt to impose a $6.00 toll on San Mateo County residents entering San Francisco. Ultimately, San Francisco withdrew the proposal, and decided against the toll. Canepa has also worked with different non-profits to maintain our beaches and streets remain clean by hosting different clean-ups throughout the year. He is also committed to working with our residents to make sure their involved in local government by working with city staff on the Citizens Academy which educates the public on how Daly City functions through a six week class.

In addition to the Daly City Council, Canepa has served on several San Mateo County regional boards dealing with transportation, housing, homelessness and infrastructure. Specifically, he has served on C/CAG (City/ County Association of Governments San Mateo County) HEART of San Mateo County (Housing and Endowment and Regional Trust), HOPE of San Mateo County (Housing our People Effectively), and the Grand Boulevard Initiative. He also sits on the North San Mateo County Sanitation District as a Board of Director.

Previously, he worked for both houses of the California Legislature, working for California State Senator Leland Yee, the district representative for North San Mateo County. While working for Yee, Canepa coordinated community events protecting seniors from scams and educating parents on how to safely install baby seats in automobiles.

Canepa was born at Mary's Help Hospital, now known as Seton Hospital in Daly City. Canepa also attended the Latchkey Center at FDR School. He earned a degree from the University of San Francisco. He lives in Daly City with his wife Ana.
