- Under My Leadership as Mayor
-
My record demonstrates achievements in quality of life, environment, charter and personnel policy reform, commercial development, housing, neighborhood wellness, homeless services, and infrastructure improvement, including the Downtown.
- Budget Expertise
-
As Mayor I have led the city through the worst recession since the great depression and placed us firmly on the path toward financial sustainability. Our budget is balanced with no cuts and a 20% reserve. We have successfully negotiated a 6.8% compensation reduction with all five unions, which saves $3.1 million a year. Some people fear that the city is in dire financial straits, but this is simply not the case.
- The Homelessness Issue
-
I am deeply concerned about the homelessness issue. I have volunteered time at the Prado Day Center, the Maxine Lewis Homeless Shelter, the overflow program and have donated financially to them for decades. I will make Improving Homeless Services an important goal for the next two years.
