For over five years Jeff Aranguena has served our community as an educator, teaching history and government in our local public schools. Growing up Jeff learned from his parents the value of hard work, community service and public education.

His father worked for the Park Service in Yosemite and his mother worked at the local doctor's office. Jeff worked his way through Cal Poly with the help of scholarships and student loans. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in history and a teaching credential in education he moved to Jackson, California to start his teaching career. Jeff taught full time in Jackson and organized an after-school program in partnership with the Amador County Parks and Recreation department to combat local teenage vandalism. The program focused on offering students opportunities to enhance their academic education by providing a safe and encouraging after-school environment.

Jeff returned to graduate school in 2008 to pursue an advanced degree in history in the city he fell in love with during his undergraduate years - San Luis Obispo. He paid his way through graduate school by teaching government and history for San Luis Coastal Unified School District. He currently teaches government and history at San Luis Obispo's Pacific Beach High School.

The time that Jeff has spent working with students, parents, teachers and administrators has reinforced his commitment to the importance of hard work and quality education. As the lead teacher for Project Citizen, a program that promotes accountable participation in local and state public policy, Jeff provided leadership, research, and knowledge for his students to establish new technological policy for the San Luis Coastal Unified School District.

While working at Pacific Beach High School in the San Luis Coastal Unified School District, he has worked across school district and union lines to help promote new groundbreaking evaluation reform that will provide a new level of professional development for our teachers and improve the educational experience for San Luis Obispo's students.

Jeff Aranguena has been an active member of the San Luis Obispo community, helping to provide quality education to this community's future generation. Jeff is particularly involved with the at risk youth, within his student population. Working alongside our local Family Resource Center to successfully address the specialized needs of this vulnerable group, Jeff allocates much of his free time making sure these students continue with and succeed in their education.

When not campaigning for City Council or teaching in the classroom Jeff is an avid hiker and enjoys reading, golf, travel and spending time with his family.
